Historic Shining Moments

1987: Indiana vs. Syracuse

The perfect game for the television debut of One Shining Moment compliments of CBS Sports – and a musical love letter to the basketball world.
“the ball is tipped…”
Indiana and Syracuse both played the game of their lives…nip & tuck from start to finish. It was finally decided by a gutsy jump shot from the baseline by Keith Smart with 2 seconds remaining before the confetti drifted down in favor of Indiana & the championship was theirs

2000: Michigan State vs. Florida

Led by Mateen Cleaves, the Spartans made their run for the national championship. They controlled the championship game well into the 2nd half, when Cleaves went down with an severe ankle sprain. He dragged himself off the court – but his dramatic limping return settled MSU down and they took the crown.
“just how hard you worked, but now it shows…”

2015: Duke vs Wisconsin

#1 Kentucky entered the tournament unbeaten (35-0). Wisconsin upset them in the Final Four. Wisconsin went on to face Duke who heated up in the second half and would go on to win their 5th national championship under Coach K. 68-63
“you always did your best, cuz inside you knew…”

2019: Virginia vs Texas Tech

Virginia defeats Texas Tech Red Raiders 85-77 in overtime.
In 2018, Virginia, #1 seed, surprisingly was upset by #16 University of Maryland Baltimore County in the first round. It was the first time a #16 had defeated a #1 in tournament history. The following year the Cavaliers resolved to make amends. And they did. Kyle Guy of Virginia hit three consecutive free throws with 0.6 seconds left after being fouled on a corner 3 to help Virginia reach & win their first-ever national championship game.
“in One Shining Moment, you reached for the sky…”
